President Joe Biden does not want to hear “lies” about “reckless spending” because he believes he is “changing people’s lives.”

During a speech to members of the AFL-CIO on Tuesday, Biden said, “I don’t want to hear any more of these lies about reckless spending.”

“We’re changing people’s lives!” he added.

Over the past decade, Democrats and Republicans spent like drunken sailors while they were in power. And when they were out of power, they blasted the party in power for abandoning fiscal responsibility.

For the most part, they avoided the consequences of wild government spending. The economy saw its longest period of growth in U.S. history, and the country did not see record-high inflation.

Now it appears that the government passing trillions of dollars in new spending is having an impact.

Inflation was starting to rise before Biden stepped into the White House. But he quickly pushed through his ill-advised $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, which economists estimate added between two and four percentage points to inflation.

The consumer price index rose 8.6% in May compared to the same month last year, marking the fastest pace of price increases since Dec. 1981.

Energy prices rose 34.6% annually while grocery prices rose 11.9% — which was the largest spike since 1979. An economist at Moody’s Analytics calculated earlier this month that inflation is costing Americans an extra $460 per month.

According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gas as of Tuesday is $5.01, up from $3.08 a year ago.

While prices are soaring, Americans are experiencing “shrinkflation,” where companies decrease the size of their products without lowering their prices. They are also reportedly turning to food banks more for their groceries.

So yes, lives are being changed, just probably not in the way Biden meant.
