President Joe Biden is ending speculation about whether he will run for re-election.

Biden posted a video on Tuesday morning announcing his 2024 campaign.

In the pre-recorded video, Biden said, “The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we have more freedom or less freedom. More rights or fewer.” He added:

“This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for re-election.”

Biden also claimed in the video, “Around the country, MAGA extremists are lining up to take on those bedrock freedoms.”

He continued, “Cutting Social Security that you’ve paid for your entire life while cutting taxes for the very wealthy, dictating what health care decisions women can make, banning books, and telling people who they can love — all while making it more difficult for you to be able to vote.”

Vice President Kamala Harris is also shown in the video.

The announcement comes after Biden received bad news from an NBC News poll, which showed only one in four Americans believe Biden should run for re-election.

As Biden is seeking a second term for office, this could set up a possible rematch between him and former President Donald Trump.

Trump announced his 2024 presidential bid in November 2022, as IJR previously reported on.

“In order to make America great and glorious again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for President of the United States,” he said at the time.

With 559 days until the election, there are four Republicans who have launched 2024 presidential bids and three Democrats. Additionally, there is speculation as to whether Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.), and former Vice President Mike Pence will run.
