With less than a year until the 2024 election, President Joe Biden’s approval rating is hitting new lows.
NBC News’ Steve Kornacki broke down the results of a poll released by the network on Sunday.
“President Biden, what is his job approval rating? We measure it now at 40% with 57% disapproving,” he said, adding, “The significance? That is the lowest President Biden has ever measured in our poll in terms of job approval.”
Kornacki noted that in January, his approval rating sat at 46%, while 50% disapproved.
Host Kristen Welker chimed in, “Significant dip there.”
Kornacki also pointed out independent voters disapprove of Biden’s job performance “more than two to one,” and added, “You don’t want to be there as an incumbent president.”

The poll found just 33% of respondents approve of Biden’s handling of foreign policy, while 62% disapprove.
Thirty-four percent of Americans approve of his handling of the Israel-Hamas war while 56% disapprove.
Additionally, it found former President Donald Trump leads Biden for the first time 46% to 44%, within the poll’s margin of error of 3.1 percentage points.
Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, who conducted the survey said about the results, “Joe Biden is at a uniquely low point in his presidency, and a significant part of this, especially within the Biden coalition, is due to how Americans are viewing his foreign policy action.”
“This poll is a stunner, and it’s stunning because of the impact the Israel-Hamas war is having on Biden,” he added.
Still, Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies, who also participated in the survey, cautioned critics of Biden about getting too excited by its results, saying, “These are people who have a proven track record in voting for Biden and Democrats.”
“Jury verdicts in Trump’s trials, unforeseen events both foreign and domestic, and the rigors of a campaign all have a funny way of upending what may be true today,” he noted.
