The government is now recommending that Americans wear “non-medical cloth” face coverings when they go out in public due to the coronavirus.

However, President Donald Trump said on Friday that he likely would not wear a mask, “Wearing a face mask as I greet presidents, prime ministers, dictators, kings, queens — I just don’t see it.”

During an interview on Sunday on ABC News’ “This Week,” former Vice President Joe Biden was asked if he would follow the government’s guidelines on face coverings, he said, “Yes, look, I think it’s important to follow the science.”

“Listen to the experts. Do what they tell you. [Trump] may not like how he looks in a mask, but the truth of the matter is follow the science,” he added.

The guidelines to wear face coverings come as a majority of Americans are under stay at home orders aimed at slowing the spread of the virus.

Additionally, the social distancing guidelines — including staying six feet away from people and avoiding groups of more than 10 — have been extended until April 30.

While the country’s top health officials have said that mitigation efforts appear to be working, Americans still need to follow the guidelines from the government to ensure that there is not a resurgence of cases of the coronavirus, they caution.

As of Sunday afternoon, there were 324,052 confirmed cases in the U.S. and 9,180 deaths.
