President Joe Biden called for former President Donald Trump to be locked up, before catching himself.

Speaking at a political event in Concord on Tuesday, Biden discussed health care costs and prescription drug prices. He then turned to his predecessor.

Biden suggested “our democracy is at stake” if Trump is re-elected, per Fox News.

“I know this sounds bizarre. It sounds like if I said this five years ago, you’d lock me up. We got to lock him up,” Biden said.

He quickly corrected himself, adding, “politically lock him up. Lock him out. That’s what we have to do.”

Check out his remarks below:

Trump campaign national press secretary Karoline Leavitt responded to Biden’s remark in a statement: “Joe Biden just admitted the truth: he and Kamala’s plan all along has been to politically persecute their opponent President Trump because they can’t beat him fair and square. The Harris-Biden Admin is the real threat to democracy. We call on Kamala Harris to condemn Joe Biden’s disgraceful remark.”

Biden was also roasted by current and former members of his administration.

A former Biden official texted Axios’ Alex Thompson, “We gotta lock Joe up.”

Additionally, a current Biden official told Thompson, “For better or worse, no one is listening to him anymore and his words have little power and less reach. It’s a blip. Gone in any meaningful way by mid-day tomorrow if it makes it that long.”

A counterpoint from a current Biden admin official: "For better or worse, no one is listening to him anymore and his words have little power and less reach. It’s a blip. Gone in any meaningful way by mid-day tomorrow if it makes it that long."
