Symone Sanders, Senior Advisor for Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign, is speaking out against President Donald Trump’s “law and order” rhetoric.

Sanders appeared on “The View” Wednesday where she was asked about Trump’s rhetoric.

“Well, I think we have to look to folks like General Mattis, General John Kelly, General Colin Powell, and the comments they have had over the last several weeks,” Sanders said. “And Donald Trump, again, is not a good-faith actor here.”

She went on to recall Trump’s press briefing in the Rose Garden where peaceful protesters were reportedly tear-gassed.

“As he was talking about being a law and order president and saying he stands on the side of peaceful protesters, there was a split screen of peaceful protesters being teargassed by the United States Military on the streets of America,” Sanders said.

She continued “That is not who we are and I frankly don’t think that’s who we want to be.”

“What Vice President Biden is doing and will continue to do is lead on this issue,” Sanders said.

Although Trump is president, Sanders believes he has “abdicated his position of leadership” while Biden hit the pavement amid the civil unrest as a result of George Floyd’s death at the hands of a police officer.

“We believe Donald Trump has abdicated his position of leadership while Vice President Biden was out touring the unrest that happened in his own city a couple of miles from where he lived in Wilmington, Delaware last week, Donald Trump… he was in a bunker,” she said.

Sanders’ remarks come as Biden is seeing a surge in the polls. While Trump recently blasted CNN for its poll results suggesting his approval rating had suffered a sharp decline, other poll results show similar findings.

On Wednesday, Gallup released new poll results with a 39% approval rating for the president which indicates a 10-point decline.

The latest poll results for Biden signal a milestone former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton never surpassed.

Although Republican lawmakers have urged Trump to tone down his rhetoric, address police reform, and consider a call for unity, he has not opted to do so yet.

However, on Tuesday, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said of police reform, “We’re hopeful that we can address the issue in a real way,” adding that Trump wants it “sooner rather than later.”
