As President Joe Biden grapples with the ongoing wave of migrants coming to the southern border, a new poll finds that a majority of Americans support his job performance.
According to a new poll from the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that 61% of respondents say they approve of his job performance.
Ninety-six percent of Democrats say they approve of his job performance, while just 22% of Republicans say the same.
Biden receives the best marks for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic which 73% of respondents saying they approve of his performance handling the virus.
Sixty percent of respondents say they approve of his handling of the economy, up from 55% last month.
However, 44% of respondents said they approve of his handling of border security, and 42% said they approve of his handling of immigration.
The poll comes as the U.S. is on track for the highest number of border crossings in 20 years. And a top border official reportedly expects more than 1 million migrants to arrive at the border this year.
At the same time, a new report has found that there are currently double the number of migrant children in government custody than during the 2019 peak in immigration.
Despite the situation at the border, Biden’s approval rating in the AP-NORC poll is a higher number than his predecessor ever received.
Former President Donald Trump never received an approval rating higher than 50% in an AP-NORC poll.
Biden’s approval rating in the AP-NORC poll has remained steady at around 60% since January.
The latest poll surveyed 1,166 adults between March 26 and March 29.
