President Joe Biden appears to be enjoying a honeymoon period as a majority of Americans approve of his job performance, according to a new poll.
A new Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll released to The Hill found that 61% of respondents approve of Biden’s job performance.
Meanwhile, 39% of respondents said they did not approve of his job performance.
The new president also appears to be winning the support of some Republicans, with 31% saying they approve of his handling of the job so far.
A Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll of former President Donald Trump’s approval rating in February 2017 found that 48% of respondents said they approved of his job performance.
According to Gallup, Trump’s approval rating topped out at 49%.
Throughout Trump’s presidency, the party divide in his approval ratings saw a much starker divide, with around 90% of Republicans saying they approved of his performance. Meanwhile, his approval ratings among Democrats rarely hit double-digits.
Additionally, 55% of respondents say they approved of the Democratic Party while just 44% said the same of the Republican Party.
Mark Penn, the director of the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey, said, “Unlike Trump, President Biden is having a honeymoon along with the Democrats.”
“The country is turning to them and giving them the opportunity to get the country vaccinated and the economy moving. It’s not the biggest of honeymoons, but it’s still a real opportunity for the party and presidency to grow,” he added.
The poll was conducted from Feb. 23 to Feb. 25 and surveyed 2,006 registered voters.
