Former Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona is reportedly still trying to advise states on education policy, this time with a new private sector consulting firm.

Cardona Solutions plans on focusing on “Academic Recovery and Excellence, Improving Conditions for Educators and Mental Health, Global Competitiveness, and College Affordability and Accessibility,” according to its website. Cardona claims he is already discussing potential collaborations with universities in Connecticut and Massachusetts, according to CT Insider.

“I want to be available to support across the country in areas that are in great need, whether it’s Democrat states or Republican states,” Cardona said, according to CT Insider. “At the end of the end of the day, I want to help all students, so this would be the way that gives me the most flexibility to meet the needs across the country and in our state specifically.”

As he prepared to leave office in January, Cardona praised himself for avoiding politically charged “culture wars” as education secretary, largely blaming Republicans for waging wars on the education front.

Cardona’s Department of Education (ED) proposed the controversial Title IX rule change that would have expanded protections meant for women to include gender identity. The proposed change faced numerous legal challenges before eventually being withdrawn by the Biden Administration. Notably, one of Cardona’s first partners in his new role is the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS). Several high school girls sued CAS in 2020 after they were forced to compete against a biological man.

Cardona also spent much of his tenure as education chief focusing on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts, issuing multiple grants to schools to train a “diverse educator workforce.” Cardona was also allegedly behind a push to use the FBI to investigate parents who spoke out against schools that brought critical race theory and gender ideology into classrooms, reportedly calling on the National School Boards Association (NSBA) to author a letter labeling such parents as “domestic terrorists.”

The Biden Administration made several attempts to cancel mass amounts of student debt alongside Cardona, which were routinely met with pushback from Republican lawmakers and was eventually shot down by the Supreme Court for being unconstitutional. Despite this, the administration still managed to wipe billions in student debt loans for more than 5 million borrowers through a series of loopholes.

In a 2023 TIME interview, Cardona argued that “the Supreme Court got the decision wrong” on student loans. He also stated the Court’s decision to ban race-based admissions policies was “wrong” and “took us backwards.”

Cardona Solutions and CAS did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.
