Former House Speaker John Boehner (R) is speaking out about why Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) gets him “so fired up.”
Sara Haines, co-host of ABC’s “The View,” noted on Monday Boehner did not hold back on how he feels about Cruz in his book “On the House: A Washington Memoir.”
She mentioned one quote from his book where Boehner wrote, “There is nothing more dangerous than a reckless a**hole who thinks he is smarter than everyone else.”
Boehner also claimed “Mitch McConnell hated [Cruz] with a passion” he “didn’t know Mitch had in him.”
Haines asked Boehner, “What is it about Cruz that gets you so fired up?”
He replied, “Well this guy was not even a member of the U.S. House. He’s a member of the Senate and he’s coming over to the House side of the Capitol stirring up some of my knuckleheads and pushing them to do things that are about the dumbest things I’ve ever seen in my life.”
Boehner continued, “He’s not even a member of our caucus and so it’s just a bit bizarre that I’ve never quite seen anything happen before or since like the activities of Ted Cruz. I don’t really beat up too many people in this book, except one, Ted Cruz, Lucifer in the flesh.”

During an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Boehner also said of Cruz, “I don’t beat anybody up. It’s not really my style. Except that jerk.”
He continued, “Perfect symbol, you know, of getting elected, make a lot of noise, draw a lot of attention to yourself, raise a lot of money, which means you’re gonna go make more noise, raise more money, and it’s really, it’s unfortunate.”
Cruz fired back at Boehner on Twitter, “The Swamp is unhappy. I wear with pride his drunken, bloviated scorn. Please don’t cry.”
