Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and political activist, has died at the age of 31.
Kirk was shot at an event in Utah on Wednesday. He was at Utah Valley University as part of his American Comeback Tour.
President Donald Trump posted the news of Kirk’s death on Truth Social, writing, “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.”
Trump continued: “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Just before Kirk was shot, he was responding to a question about transgender mass shooters in the U.S.
According to a spokesperson from Utah Valley University, the suspect is not in custody, per CNN.
Kirk, an ally Trump, is married and the couple has two children.
Trump wrote on Truth Social after the shooting, “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!”
Vice President JD Vance also wrote on X, “Say a prayer for Charlie Kirk, a genuinely good guy and a young father.”
This is a developing story.
