Pop superstar Britney Spears revealed she is done with making music.

On Wednesday, Spears, 42, announced the news on her Instagram page where she addressed rumors she was recording a new album, via Billboard.

“Just so we’re clear most of the news is trash !!! They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry !!! When I write, I write for fun or I write for other people !!!” she wrote.

Spears continued, “For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!! I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly enjoy it that way !!!”

Additionally, Spears addressed claims that her best-selling memoir, “The Woman in Me,” was released without her “approval illegally,” which she said was “far from the truth.”

“Have you read the news these days ??? I’m so LOVED and blessed !!!” she further stated.

This came after The U.S. Sun and Page Six reported that the “Everytime” singer was working on her 10th studio album in collaboration with singers Charli XCX and Julia Michaels.

“The Britney album is being kept top secret. Work has been going on behind the scenes for quite a while to gather a series of killer songs to bring Britney back with a bang,” a music insider told The U.S. Sun. “She is known as one of the biggest pop stars of the 21st century so there is pressure for the music to be great.”

In 2022, Spears collaborated with singer Elton John in the song “Hold Me Closer,” which was named  “Billboard readers’ favorite song of 2022.”

In September 2022, the single debuted at No. 6 on the Hot 100.

In January 2023, John celebrated the song’s success on his Instagram page.

“An enormous thank you to [Billboard], it’s readers and all the fans of ‘Hold Me Closer’ who voted it their favourite song of 2022!! And thank you [Britney Spears] for your talent and collaboration in making this happen and the incredible [Andrew Watt] who shares this success!” he wrote.

John added, “What an incredible way to kick off the year.”
