Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) got into a heated debate with Fox News host Sandra Smith over former President Donald Trump’s unfounded claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 election.

On Sunday, Brooks appeared on Fox News and stated that Trump was “robbed” of the election.

However, Smith said, “Just to go on the record. There has been still no evidence or proof provided that there was any sort of fraud…”

“Well, no, that’s wrong,” Brooks interjected. “I don’t know why you people in the media keep saying that, but that is absolutely false. That is absolutely false. You keep saying it every time, but that’s absolutely false.”

He continued, “You had a 150 Congressman and senators who absolutely disagreed with you on what you just said. So what are you calling them? What are you calling them when you say 150 Republican senators and Congressman looked at the voter fraud issue and said there was a major problem?”

“I don’t know who’s telling you there’s no evidence, but that tells me you haven’t done your homework. And I’m sorry, but that’s the way it is,” the Alabama Congressman said

When Smith started talking about courts not ruling in favor of Trump’s claims, Brooks interrupted as he said, “Time out. Don’t go into that.”

He pressed on:

“I’m getting the last word on this one cause you just made a false statement, OK? Courts are not the final arbiter of who wins federal election contests — Congress is. That is required by the United States Constitution, that is required by the United States code for Congressman, and senators, and the president. So don’t be surprised that courts don’t usurp the power that is authorized to the United States Congress.”

Trump has repeatedly claimed that the 2020 election was stolen.

However, several recounts and legal challenges failed to find evidence to support his claims or change the election’s outcome.

Brooks is headed for a run-off in his bid for the Senate.

Trump withdrew his endorsement from the Congressman in March after Brooks said Republicans should focus on 2022 and 2024 instead of the last election.

In a statement announcing his decision to retract his support, Trump said, “Mo Brooks of Alabama made a horrible mistake recently when he went ‘woke’ and stated, referring to the 2020 Presidential Election Scam, ‘Put that behind you, put that behind you,’ despite the fact that the Election was rife with fraud and irregularities.”

Brooks addressed the move in a statement as he said, “I am the only proven America First candidate in this Senate race.”

“I am the only candidate who fought voter fraud and election theft when it counted, between November 3 and January 6,” he added.

However, he claimed Trump “asked me to rescind the 2020 elections, immediately remove Joe Biden from the White House, immediately put President Trump back in the White House, and hold a new special election for the presidency.”

“As a lawyer, I’ve repeatedly advised President Trump that January 6 was the final election contest verdict and neither the U.S. Constitution nor the U.S. Code permit what President Trump asks. Period,” the Congressman added.
