Radio host Charlamagne Tha God said Monday that voters appreciate former President Donald Trump and Republican Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance’s rhetoric about putting America above other countries.
Trump and Vance have both pledged their dedication to an “America First” agenda in their remarks on the campaign trail. Charlamagne, on “The Breakfast Club,” argued Vice President Kamala Harris and Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz fail to connect with voters on domestic issues like Trump and Vance do.

“One place where I think they mess up in regards to messaging — like you know, you’ll listen to a lot of reporters and they’ll be talking to Trump or J.D. Vance, and they’ll be talking to them about things that are happening right here in America because it is an election season right here in America,” Charlamagne said. “So, it’s so many things that we care about here … So, it’s always America First. But then, you know, you go to Tim Walz and they’re asking him about geopolitical politics, and I think a lot of times that makes them sound, you know, very out of touch.”
“It makes them sound very out of touch to what’s actually going on right here in America … Not saying that that stuff is important, but that stuff gets highlighted over what’s happening right here in this country,” he added. “And when you hear, you know, the Vances and the Trumps talking about what’s happening here at home and saying things like America First and Make America Great Again, that messaging sometimes resonates a lot more. Not sometimes; it does resonate a lot more.”
Charlamagne pointed to Harris’ Sunday announcement regarding nearly $157 million of additional aid to Lebanon, which sparked backlash based on Americans struggling in North Carolina due to Hurricane Helene.
“People got outraged. ‘Cause they was like, ‘Yo, what about us right here in North Carolina?’ So, like, that America First messaging goes much farther, especially during election season,” Charlamagne said.
Registered voters rank the economy, health care and Supreme Court appointments as more pressing issues than foreign policy, according to Gallup in September.
The radio host also recently said the Trump campaign’s ad accusing Harris of backing taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners “was impactful.”
“When you hear the narrator say Kamala supports taxpayer-funded sex changes for prisoners, that one line I was like, ‘Hell no, I don’t want my taxpayer dollars going to that.’ That ad was effective,” he asserted.
Harris has previously indicated she supports tax-payer funded sex changes for transgender prison inmates and illegal immigrants.
