Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is telling Fox News it has a “particular obligation” to “make sure people know the election wasn’t stolen.”
Fox News’s Bret Baier told Cheney that she and her Republican colleagues were “at least in part elected to block the Biden agenda.” He then questioned if her Republican colleagues are “correct to claim your focus on the election and President Trump was somehow not going to get them to that goal.”
Cheney pushed back, “No, I think that’s actually wrong, Bret.” She argued that Republicans have focused on “making sure people understand the Biden policies are dangerous.”
“The issue isn’t whether or not we stand against the Biden policies. The issue is are we going to be a party that sits by silently while the former president continues to perpetuate lies about the election,” the lawmaker added.
Baier then pointed to statistics about Wyoming showing “more people voted for President Trump than voted for” Cheney. She was pressed on why Wyoming voters should reelect her then.
Cheney fired back, saying she is “disputing” Baier’s characterization of what she is doing.
Later, Cheney said, “We all have an obligation and I would say Fox News — especially, especially Fox News — has a particular obligation to make sure people know the election wasn’t stolen.”
Baier responded, “We have said that numerous times.” Cheney added, “Fox News needs to make sure,” before Baier and she started talking over each other.

Ahead of the ouster vote this week, Cheney tore into former President Donald Trump in a speech on the House floor, saying, “We face a threat America has never seen before. A former president who provoked a violent attack on this Capitol in an effort to steal the election has resumed his aggressive effort to convince Americans that the election was stolen from him.”
She continued after the vote her criticism of the former president, “I will do everything I can to ensure that the former president never again gets anywhere near the Oval Office.”
Cheney was purged from the leadership post on Wednesday following a voice vote.
Trump appeared to be happy that House Republicans made the move, writing in a statement, “Liz Cheney is a bitter, horrible human being,” adding, “I look forward to soon watching her as a Paid Contributor on CNN or MSDNC!”
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) won the support on Friday to replace Cheney.
Cheney was asked by NBC News’s Savannah Guthrie if she would “ever consider leaving the Republican Party and becoming an independent,” to which the Wyoming Republican responded, “I’m not leaving the party.”
