A CNN reporter told host Wolf Blitzer Tuesday that it “wasn’t hard” to find supporters of former President Donald Trump at a polling location in traditionally blue Fairfax County.
In the 2020 election between Trump and President Joe Biden, Fairfax County was Virginia’s Democratic stronghold, with Biden winning nearly 70% of the vote, according to state election data. Reporting live from a polling site in Burke, Virginia, the CNN reporter told Blitzer that while she had encountered many Trump supporters, most were reluctant to go on camera, fearing backlash from friends or neighbors.
“As far as color and what we’re seeing here, I have to say, it wasn’t hard to find Trump supporters here at this Fairfax county voting place. We know Fairfax county, usually leaning blue, but there were many who said they were planning to vote for Trump or they had voted for Trump,” the reporter said.

“However, when it came to sharing their views on camera they didn’t want to. One woman worked in the army,” the reporter continued. “Her coworkers assume she’s voting Democrat, she didn’t want to be on television saying she was voting otherwise. Another woman saying she just didn’t want her neighbors and friends to know she had decided to vote Trump. So the Trump voters here, at this site, a bit camera shy, but they are here, Wolf.”
The race between Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump has tightened in recent weeks, with political pundits highlighting the deadlock in polls as Election Day arrives. RealClearPolitics’ polling average shows Harris with a narrow 0.1-point lead over Trump, holding 48.7% support to Trump’s 48.6%.
