In 2020, President Joe Biden set a record as the presidential candidate to receive the most votes ever in U.S. history.
And now, over a year and a half into this first term, he is setting a new record but it’s probably one he won’t be bragging about: how high his disapproval rating is at this point in his presidency.
CNN’s senior data reporter, Harry Enten, made an appearance on “AC 360” to discuss the president’s abysmal approval rating with host Anderson Cooper.
Enten shared a slide that showed Biden’s disapproval rating seven months ago was at 50% and a year ago it was at 44%. Now, it is at 58%.
At the same time, a year ago, polls showed that just 5% of Americans listed inflation as a top family concern, and seventh months ago 14% said the same. However, today that number is at 33%.
“A year ago, no one was saying inflation was a concern outside of [economist Larry Summers]. Now, it is a clear number one issue, and we see this clear correlation as more people are concerned about inflation, Joe Biden’s disapproval rating climbs ever higher,” he said.

Cooper then asked how Biden’s approval rating compares to previous presidents, and this is where the segment took a detour to perhaps inadvertently savage the current occupant of the White House’s poll numbers.
“We can look at both Joe Biden’s disapproval rating on inflation and Joe Biden’s disapproval rating overall, and what we see is his disapproval rating on inflation is topping 70%. His disapproval rating overall is still in the 50s,” Enten said.
On the screen was displayed a slide that read, “Worst ever at this point in 1st term in presidential polling history.”
He went on:
“But, if you compare that to every single other president at this point in their first term throughout polling history, this goes all the way back since the 1940s, he is the worst on both.”
Finally, Enten said, “The reason he is worst overall is because inflation is eating his presidency alive at this point.”
According to FiveThirtyEight, Biden’s average approval rating is sitting at 38.8% while his disapproval rating is 56%.
His approval rating is lower than all of his 12 immediate predecessors.
Biden is reportedly very upset with his poll numbers. But he seems to be only able to do things that keep making people like him less.
