The suspect arrested in connection with a terrorist attack in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday is an illegal migrant, according to federal immigration officials.
Mohamed Sabry Soliman, a 45-year-old foreign national, entered the U.S. during the Biden administration and remained in the country after his visa expired, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation. Soliman is accused of using a makeshift flamethrower and Molotov cocktails to attack a pro-Israel demonstration.
“The Colorado Terrorist attack suspect, Mohamed Soliman, is illegally in our country,” a DHS spokesperson stated Monday to the DCNF. “He entered the country in August 2022 on a B2 visa that expired on February 2023. He filed for asylum in September 2022.”
On Sunday afternoon, Soliman allegedly targeted peaceful demonstrators advocating for the Israeli hostages who remain in Hamas custody, according to a press release from City of Boulder. The attack left eight victims — four women and four men ages 52 to 88 — requiring medical attention at Denver metro hospitals.
Soliman allegedly yelled “free Palestine” during his attack against demonstrators, according to police. After being taken to the hospital for a medical evaluation, he was booked into the Boulder County Jail on multiple charges.
Stephen Miller, the White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy, also confirmed Soliman’s immigration status in a statement on social media, and called for “suicide migration” to be undone.
“A terror attack was committed in Boulder, Colorado by an illegal alien. He was granted a tourist visa by the Biden Administration and then he illegally overstayed that visa. In response, the Biden Administration gave him a work permit,” Miller posted on X Sunday. “Suicidal migration must be fully reversed.”
The attack in Boulder came less than two weeks after two Israeli embassy staffers, Yaron Lischinsky and Sarah Milgrim, were fatally gunned down in Washington, D.C. Their alleged killer, 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez, opened fire on a group of people as they exited the Capital Jewish Museum and later shouted “free Palestine” as he was being detained.
The Israel-Hamas war began when the terrorist group launched a surprise attack on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, murdering around 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping roughly 250 others. Israel Defense Forces have since largely occupied Gaza and eliminated thousands of Hamas operatives, crippling the terrorist organization’s capabilities, but at a great humanitarian cost to the Arab enclave.
“Boulder is not immune to tragedy sadly and I know a lot of people are scared right now and questioning how this happened and why,” Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn said in a prepared statement Sunday. “Boulder has recovered from acts of violence before and we will again recover.
“I urge this community to come together. Now is not the time to be divisive,” Redfearn continued.
