Radio host Charlamagne Tha God on Tuesday sparred with journalist Morgyn Wood about whether President Joe Biden should step down to enable Vice President Kamala Harris to take his job.

Former Harris communications director Jamal Simmons suggested Sunday that Biden could be the “transitional figure” he pledged to be by stepping aside for his vice president. When “The Breakfast Club” co-host DJ Envy raised the idea, which he said he had seen circulating online, Charlamagne dismissed it, while Wood promoted it, sparking a clash.

WATCH:

“What’s the point? What would be the point of that?” Charlemagne asked, to which Wood responded that it would enable Harris to have a “historic moment.”

“I think that’s complete foolishness,” Charlamagne retorted. The radio host said he would prefer for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to retire so that Biden could appoint Harris in her place, which CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers suggested on Friday.

“I think that is a more substantial, solid thing to do than to step down and let her symbolically be the president for 60 days,” Charlamagne added.

Wood disagreed.

“Man, y’all like symbols. Y’all like symbolism, that’s the problem,” Charlamagne said. “I like substance … I just don’t see what’s the point? What’s the point of him stepping down and then making her the president for 60 days or 70 days? What’s the point of that?”

“It is the symbolism behind it. You’re absolutely right. It’s the symbolism of sexism, is what it is,” Wood said. “We could put racism to the side for just a little bit.”

Charlemagne asked why “a symbolism of sexism” would be desirable.

“No, it’s breaking the glass ceiling of sexism,” Wood clarified.

Charlemagne reiterated that he would prefer Harris becoming a justice on the Supreme Court.

“Break the ceiling, Biden,” Wood urged.

Some Democrats have asked Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor to retire before President-elect Donald Trump takes office so that Biden can replace her, citing her age and medical history, Politico reported. Sellers asserted Friday that Democrats fear a repeat of when Ruth Bader Ginsburg perished in office during the Trump administration and got replaced by Amy Coney Barrett.

“You have a hell of a vice president who has a legal pedigree to sit on the Supreme Court and let Republicans go crazy,” he said.
