Dogs at the Connecticut Humane Society shared their own “Barksgiving” with the help of nonprofit The Doggy Wish.
According to NBC Connecticut, the shelter dogs got to celebrate turkey day a little early on Sunday, thanks to The Doggy Wish, ah agency who partnered with the local Humane Society to give these pooches something to truly be thankful for.
Humane Society employee Zoe Picanso stated, “It’s great to see the pets who’ll come in get the food they’ll get lots of food, something special, right, something out of their daily activity in any way that we can provide.”
“A little bit of happiness for our pets here is really great for them,” she added.
According to The Doggy Wish website, the organization grants wishes for dogs, like the canine version of the “Make-A-Wish Foundation.”
Before sharing the recent holiday meal, The Doggy Wish posted to Facebook about the first “Barksgiving,” held last year.
They stated, “Visiting the shelter with a homemade turkey dinner for the pups was an experience we will never forget.”
“The pups were so excited to have a hot home-cooked meal. They gobbled it up faster than you could even imagine. You could just feel how grateful they were to be treated with a special meal,” the post went on.
The organization then asked supporters to donate to ensure the new tradition can continue for years to come.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” they concluded.
The picture of the 2022 puppy plate displayed a dinner full of turkey, carrots, sweet potatoes, and a special doggie treat with the words “Give Thanks” baked into it.
The organization also noted, “Thanksgiving just wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a local shelter with a delicious catered dog-friendly meal for the pups. (Turkey dinner with all the fixins).”
