A U.S. Army MH-60 Black Hawk crashed in a rural area outside of a military base in Washington State, the Army confirmed to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
The incident occurred in a “rural area” near Joint Base Lewis McChord at around 9 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time Wednesday, the Army told the DCNF. The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office announced overnight that “the military lost contact with a helicopter in the area” and reported they found what is believed to be the crash site. The helicopter was on a routine training flight when the incident occurred, Army spokesperson Cynthia O. Smith told the DCNF.
In a separate statement on Thursday afternoon, the Army announced that four soldiers with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, Airborne were aboard the aircraft when it crashed. The Army did not release any information on their conditions, the AP reported, but the crash remains under investigation.
“This remains a developing situation, and no additional details are available at this time,” the Army told the DCNF.
