Comedian Kathy Griffin is facing criticism after sending a strange message about a civil war.

In a bizarrely vague and ominous tweet on Tuesday, Griffin wrote, “If you don’t want a Civil War, vote for Democrats in November. If you do want Civil War, vote Republican.”

If you don’t want a Civil War, vote for Democrats in November. If you do want Civil War, vote Republican.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) blasted Griffin, writing in a tweet, “This is WRONG. Crazy Hollywood Leftie threatening ‘Civil War’ if Dems don’t win.”

“Sadly, this is today’s Left: angry, hateful [and] violent,” he added.

This is WRONG.

Check out some of the other reactions below:

If you don't vote the way the washed up Kathy Griffin wants you to, she'll turn to violence.

Seems sane and reasonable. https://t.co/EQ5GsTPq8V

Kathy Griffin is inciting violence on Twitter again. She must be struggling to book gigs and is in need of attention. https://t.co/TBJsmUXME7

Do you believe Griffin's explanation?

If you vote Democrat you're voting for an awful, dystopian future. If you want peace and prosperity you vote Republican. https://t.co/puLVTwoXTb

Is this supposed to be a threat or something https://t.co/2319bPcHoQ

Might want to workshop this one. https://t.co/1Sf6oESZ6r

The tolerant progressive left has a message for you this November… https://t.co/7bsGbzQO1a

Griffin later tweeted, “You guys. The maga blue checks are at it again. Because they are constantly threatening Civil War, they are now trying to suggest that I am the one who is threatening a Civil War. Because you know, that’s my thing.”

It’s not really clear what her tweet means then.

Writer Amee Vanderpool also defended Griffin, tweeting, “Ms. Kathy is talking about consequences based on the threats MADE BY Republicans. She is not making the threat, she is pointing OUT the threat. We need to send a lot of adults back to school.”

If Republicans win control of Congress and other offices in November, it does not make sense that conservatives would start a civil war. Why would they become violent after gaining power?

Simply writing that people are stupid or not educated is not a good explanation for this tweet.

The riot at the U.S. Capitol occurred after people were convinced that the presidential election was stolen. So perhaps she is suggesting that there will always be violence if people vote for Republicans and they lose.

But, what about Democrats winning elections would prevent a civil war? If her argument is that Republicans become violent when they lose, then why would voting for Democrats change that?

Overall, her tweet does not make any sense if you take her at her word that she was not calling for a civil war. Instead, it was just another reckless and ill-conceived comment about a civil war that does nothing but further tensions between liberals and conservatives and fuels suspicion that each side wants to use the power of the state or other forms of violence against their opponents.
