Political rallies are known for chants from the audience, but when Vice President Kamala Harris asked a crowd in Michigan to do this one thing, she was met with an awkward silence.
The Democratic nominee for president told the audience Monday to “shout your own name,” Fox News reported.
Harris attempted to muster the crowd by saying they are all in this together.
“We are all here because we are fighting for a democracy and for the right of people to be heard and seen,” Harris said. “We’re not about the enemy within. We know we are all in this together. That’s what we are fighting for.”
When the crowd started chanting, “Ka-ma-la, Ka-ma-la,” she responded with, “Now I want each of you to shout your own name. Do that.”
The request fell flat as the crowd went quiet.
Harris then laughed and said, “It’s about all of us,” before going on with her speech.
The moment was quickly memorialized with reactions on X, formerly Twitter.
“She is SO BAD at this… Kamala Harris’ rally crowd is completely stumped after she tells them to all start shouting their own names,” one user posted.
