When Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) saw someone had painted graffiti defaming slain political activist Charlie Kirk, he got to work covering up those words.
Cruz took time this past weekend to cover up the words “F*** Charlie Kirk” on 59 Freeway in Houston, Fox News reported.
Kirk, a conservative activist, was assassinated on a college campus in Utah last week.
“Some deranged bastard put this graffiti on the 59 freeway in Houston. TXDOT has been notified & I’m sure they will remove it expeditiously,” Cruz posted Sunday on X. “But, in the meantime, Texans don’t have to look at this hateful garbage anymore.”
The post included two photos of Cruz painting over the graffiti.
Cruz also posted a video of himself covering the hateful words with paint.
He wrote, “Erasing evil,” in the post.
Watch:
Billionaire Elon Musk posted his approval of Cruz with an American flag emoji.
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce thanked Cruz.
Her post included two clapping hands emojis and she wrote, “Well done. Thank you from all of us @tedcruz.” She included an American flag emoji and a heart emoji.
Not all posts on X were complimentary.
“So why are you posting yourself painting over it? Are you trying to get attention?” one person posted.
“Ted Cruz out here cosplaying as a Home Depot employee instead of doing his actual job,” another posted. “Next week: he’ll fight inflation by handing out expired Chili’s coupons.”
“Why not just paint it the right color?” another wrote.
“Or… you could have just taken care of it without a post. The rest of us don’t need to see more than we’re already seeing either. Quiet works are good honest works,” yet another posted.
Cruz called Kirk a “close friend” after his death. He also described him as “courageous, brilliant, compassionate, and powerfully honest.”
