Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) expressed concern about the possibility of Texas becoming a swing state in the upcoming general election and what it could mean for the future of the Republican Party.

The Texas senator took to Facebook with a video message to members of the Republican Party.

“In Texas, the stakes are especially high,” Cruz said in a Facebook video posted to the social network on Sunday. “Texas is the single biggest target for the left in 2020, politically speaking.”

Cruz went on to discuss the upcoming presidential and congressional elections and all that’s at stake for the Republican Party.

Cruz continued, “[There are] 38 electoral votes at stake. There’s a U.S. Senate seat at stake. Texas is the key for national domination for years to come. If Democrats win Texas, it’s all over.”

According to Cruz, if Democrats manage to swing Texas, it may be a turning point in U.S. politics.

The Texas lawmaker suggested Democratic changes could jeopardize the “precious freedoms” of all Americans, as he laid out some of the changes that could be made in the near future.

“If we don’t win Texas, we don’t win the White House. We lose control of Washington. We lose the precious freedoms Texans and all Americans that we believe in such as the right of free speech, to peacefully express our views. Such as the right to religious liberty, to practice your religion free of government getting in the way. Such as the Second Amendment, the right to protect yourself, your family, and your home from harm.”

Cruz’s latest remarks come amid the circulation of a political ad that appears to contradict his latest concerns.

Although Cruz urged his supporters to vote in favor of the Republican Party maintaining control Washington, the video highlights him condemning President Donald Trump’s in 2016.

Despite Cruz’s concerns about the future of the Republican Party, the president is maintaining a narrow lead over presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, as of polls conducted through July 10.

According to Real Clear Politics, Trump holds a 0.2% lead over Biden. The general election is set for November 3, 2020.
