CNN’s Chris Cuomo is expressing concern about the dangers of Dr. Anthony Fauci telling Americans “the truth about Trump” regarding the coronavirus.

On Monday night during his closing arguments, Cuomo discussed the awkward position Fauci is in when it comes to President Donald Trump and the American people.

He also expressed concern as he noted Fauci’s absence during the Monday evening coronavirus briefing.

“Not seeing Dr. Anthony Fauci on stage today worried me, and it should worry you,” Cuomo warned, adding, “He’s become like America’s grandpa. He gives conscience and comfort and fact to this country and uniquely so.”

During the briefing, Trump alluded to the idea of reopening the country as early as seven days from now, as previously reported on IJR.

Cuomo’s segment went on to highlight Trump’s exchange with a news reporter who had asked about Fauci.

In reference to reopening the country, the reporter wanted to know whether or not the president thought Fauci would agree with his stance. Trump only responded by saying Fauci “doesn’t not agree” with him.

To Cuomo, Fauci’s truth-telling could be “more dangerous than the coronavirus.” It could also lead to adverse effects that may impact everyone.

“He doesn’t not agree, I don’t know what that means. But it doesn’t matter and here is why. Is Dr. Fauci important to our economic decisions? No. […] Do you know what is more dangerous than COVID? Telling the truth about Trump as a member of the executive branch. No one survives that. Why put Fauci in a position of having to admit that Trump is wrong or lying when we already know that to be the case. You literally sometimes leave Fauci with no good answer other than, ‘What do you want me to do?’ The answer to his question is help us get through this. Fauci must be kept bigger than the politics of Trump.”

The Trump administration seems to have a history of high turnover rates.

Reports have suggested that Trump may be growing frustrated with Fauci’s “blunt approach at the briefing lectern, which often contradicts things the president has just said,” as The New York Times reports, citing two unnamed sources.

The latest news follows a string of reports about the global pandemic, its impact on all 50 states, and the Trump administration’s response efforts to combat the virus.

Over the last couple of weeks, Dr. Fauci has become a key player on the White House Coronavirus Task Force. During many of the White House’s press briefings, reporters and Americans have looked to him for answers, statistics, and projects about the pandemic.

In fact, one reporter recently referred to Fauci as “the representative of truth and facts” when “things are being said that aren’t true and aren’t factual.”

While, in many cases, there are no definitive answers or solutions, as of yet, Fauci has attempted to be as clear as possible about the virus and its effect.

The 79-year-old doctor even responded to the reporter’s reference in a similar fashion. He admitted there are limitations to what he can do, saying that it is not his place to correct the president during the briefings.

“I can’t jump in front of the microphone and push him down,” Fauci said of Trump. “OK, he said it. Let’s try and get it corrected for the next time.”

As of Tuesday morning, there were more than 46,000 positive coronavirus cases nationwide.
