Democratic Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser will sit down Friday with fired MSNBC host Joy Reid as President Donald Trump cracks down on crime running rampant in her city.
Reid, who is well known for being race-obsessed, will interview the Washington mayor on the “State of the People” livestream at 9 p.m. on Friday while law enforcement is arresting dozens of criminals on the streets. Bowser has condemned Trump’s crackdown on the nation’s capital and has called for statehood.
Bowser traveled to Martha’s Vineyard on Thursday for a “family commitment” despite her city being under a “public safety emergency.” Since Trump’s takeover, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and the National Guard have arrested over 100 individuals for homicide, firearm offenses, assaults, lewd behavior and drug-related offenses.

The administration’s actions followed a series of high-profile crimes in the nation’s capital, including the shooting of two Israeli Embassy staffers in May and the severe beating of Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffer Edward Coristine, also known as “Big Balls,” for interfering in a carjacking.
Reid, who got fired from MSNBC in February, is known for spewing derogatory rhetoric about white people and repeatedly viewing every news story through a race-based lens. In November 2024, she lashed out at white women on national television for largely backing Trump over former Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
The former MSNBC host also compared Democrat Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly to a “mayonnaise sandwich on Wonder bread white” because of his skin color during an Aug. 9, 2024, segment. She also accused Republicans in March 2021 of being willing to trade in tax cuts to “openly say the n-word.”
Reid further claimed that Elon Musk wanted a return to apartheid simply because he supported free speech on Twitter. However, Musk attended an anti-apartheid concert as a child growing up in South Africa in the 1980s, according to an excerpt from Walter Isaacson’s book, “Elon Musk.”
The MPD also excludes aggravated and felony assault from its database and has shown that violent crime dropped by 26% since 2024. However, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which includes those crimes into their statistics, shows that violent crime went down by just 10% since 2024.
Washington settled a lawsuit with former Sergeant Charlotte Djossou on Thursday, who sued the city for allegedly undercounting felonies and violent crimes. Records show that leaders in the MPD instructed officers to reclassify crimes in order to exclude them from public statistics.
