Democratic New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy dared Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over the weekend to arrest an illegal immigrant that he revealed is living on his property.

ICE agents have arrested over 7,400 illegal immigrants considered to be “public safety and national security threats” since President Donald Trump took office on Jan. 20. The agents have prioritized the arrests of illegal immigrants who have been convicted of heinous crimes, including sexual acts against children, rape, robbery and murder.

“There’s someone in our broader universe [whose] immigration status is not yet at the point that they are trying to get it to and we said ‘you know what? Let’s have her live at our house above our garage.’ And good luck to the feds coming in to try and get her,” Murphy said at a Saturday event held by “Blue Wave New Jersey.”

New Jersey became one of 11 sanctuary states in March 2019, and Murphy has implemented several programs to house and support illegal immigrants. He also put forth a policy called the “Immigration Trust Directive” which restricts state and local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE agents and immigration officials.

Border czar Tom Homan warned in November that Democratic Denver Mayor Mike Johnston and others who obstruct federal agents’ efforts to arrest illegal immigrants could go to jail.

The New Jersey governor signed legislation in 2019 allowing for illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses, stating that the action will guarantee less traffic-related accidents.

Video captured in Boston, Massachusetts, showing ICE agents arresting an illegal migrant gang member from Haiti with 17 prior criminal convictions, an illegal Brazilian national who was wanted for armed robbery, an El Salvadoran national charged locally for rape and an illegal migrant from the Dominican Republic who is charged with assault with a deadly weapon and heroin trafficking. The Haitian gang member praised former Presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden for his entry into the U.S., and exclaimed that he would not return to his country.

Agents also arrested a Dominican national in Massachusetts who was convicted in 2007 of beating his wife to death in front of her 5-year-old son.

On his first day in office, Trump signed 11 executive orders directed at the immigration crisis which declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border, revoked birthright citizenship for children born to illegal immigrants and reinstated the Remain in Mexico policy. The national emergency allows Trump to utilize additional resources to address the migrant crisis that began under the Biden administration.

The Trump administration opened up more spaces for arrests by reversing a Biden-era policy that prohibited ICE agents from arresting illegal immigrants in sensitive locations, including churches, schools and hospitals.

Trump imposed 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada and a 10% tariff on China on Saturday over the flow of illegal immigration and deadly drugs entering the U.S. The president put a pause on the tariff placed on Mexico after Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Monday that the nation will deploy 10,000 National Guard soldiers to the southern border to help mitigate the border crisis.
