A Democratic lawmaker is lavishing praise on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) time in leadership.
During an appearance on MSNBC on Friday, Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-Texas) said, “Speaker Pelosi has been the most consequential leader in my lifetime. She is a brilliant woman, an incredible strategist, someone with very profound compassion.”
“Someone who leads us in a way that is about the children. You know her mantra was, ‘It’s for the children,'” she added.

Finally, Escobar said, “I will never forget, and I hope the history books write this down, during our darkest hour on Jan. 6, it was Speaker Pelosi who led our nation out of that darkness and led us back onto the House floor so that we could do our constitutional duty, certify the election, and guarantee the peaceful transfer of power.”
She described Pelosi as “cool, calm, collected” during the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“And she was the patriot that our nation needed especially in that moment. She really is, in my view, an American hero that is unrivaled,” Escobar added.
Her comments come after Pelosi revealed her plans for the future.
“There is no greater official honor for me than to stand on this floor and to speak for the people of San Francisco,” she said during a speech on the House floor on Thursday. This I will continue to do as a member of the House speaking for the people of San Francisco, serving the great state of California, and defending the Constitution.”
The California Democrat added, “And with great confidence in our caucus, I will not seek re-election to Democratic leadership in the next Congress. For me, the hour [has] come for a new generation to lead the Democratic caucus that I so deeply respect.”

Pelosi’s announcement comes after Republicans were projected to win control of the chamber.
President Joe Biden reportedly called Pelosi to ask her to stay in office for the next two years after the midterm elections.
“I hope you stick,” he reportedly told her according to Politico.
When she pointed out she had personal considerations, Biden responded, “I know it’s family first but I hope you stick.”
