Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman of New York expressed frustration over United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents wearing masks during their operations in an interview released Sunday.
Border czar Tom Homan told reporters during a May 30 press gaggle that assaults on ICE agents are increasing and that the “doxxing” of agents reached “an all-time high.” Goldman claimed he confronted some ICE agents in the lobby of the building where his office was and said that by wearing the masks, the ICE agents were admitting their actions were not “legitimate.”
“I asked them, I said to them: whoa. What are you, what is the point here or do? What are you just trying to tally, more arrests and get any real response, and then I said to them: why are you wearing masks?” Goldman told CBS New York reporter Marcia Kramer during the interview. “I was a federal prosecutor for ten years. I worked with ICE agents. I worked with law enforcement agents. I never saw any of them wear masks. This is brand new and the question is: If everything is legitimate and proper, why are you wearing masks to hide your face?”

President Donald Trump issued several executive orders to address illegal immigration and border security, including designating Mexican drug cartels, the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) and the El Salvadoran prison gang MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations upon taking office Jan. 20 and invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to speed up the deportation of gang members on March 15.
Resistance to ICE operations to arrest illegal immigrants has also included a Milwaukee judge who allegedly helped an illegal immigrant briefly evade ICE agents sent to arrest an illegal immigrant and Democratic Mayor Freddie O’Connell of Nashville releasing the names of ICE agents involved in a crackdown on illegal immigrants in the city.
“When our heroic law enforcement officers conduct operations, they clearly identify themselves as police while wearing masks to protect themselves from being targeted by known and suspected terrorist sympathizers,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “It is interesting that the media who are so concerned with our law enforcement officers wearing masks to protect themselves don’t say a word about the terrorist sympathizers on US college campuses who cowardly wear masks as they do the bidding of terrorist organizations that relish the killing of Americans and Jews.”
ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the DCNF.
