DeSantis Files Paperwork to Run for President in 2024

Share

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is officially getting into the race for the 2024 Republican presidential primary.

On Wednesday, DeSantis filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to run for president.

The filing comes hours before the governor is expected to announce his campaign during an event on Twitter.

Fox News reports, “Sources familiar confirmed to Fox News that the popular conservative governor will declare that he’s a candidate for president on Wednesday at 6 p.m. ET during a conversation with Elon Musk on Twitter.”

“His first national TV interview following the announcement will be with Fox News’ Trey Gowdy Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET on ‘Fox News Tonight,’” it added.

DeSantis has been seen as a potential 2024 candidate for a while.

And several reports indicated he was planning on joining the race sometime after the state’s legislative session ended.

After he cruised to re-election with a nearly 20 percentage point margin, polls appeared to show the governor was in a strong position to beat former President Donald Trump and win his party’s nomination.

Are you excited about this?

However, FiveThirtyEight’s aggregator of polls shows Trump now leads the Florida governor, receiving 53.9% of the vote while DeSantis garners 21.1% nationally.
