Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) is addressing speculation former President Donald Trump could soon be arrested.
And Trump supporters are not happy with his comments.
During an event on Monday, a reporter asked the governor for his reaction to the speculation and whether he would have a role in extraditing the former president to New York.
DeSantis noted he has seen “rumors swirl,” but he has not seen “any facts yet.” However, he accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg of weaponizing his office “to impose a political agenda on society at the expense of the rule of law and public safety.”
He highlighted data that showed Bragg had downgraded about half of his felony cases to misdemeanors.
Turning to the Trump case, DeSantis added, “I don’t know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair. I just, I can’t speak to that.”
“But what I can speak to is that you have a prosecutor who is ignoring crimes happening every single day in his jurisdiction, and he chooses to go back many, many years ago to try to use something about porn star hush money payments. You know, that’s an example of pursuing a political agenda,” he added.

He went on to suggest that while it would be “bad” for Bragg to carry out a “high profile politicized prosecution,” the “real victims” are everyday New Yorkers.
“They get victimized every day because of the reckless political agenda that these Soros DAs bring to their job. They ignore crime, and they empower criminals,” DeSantis continued, adding, “The Soros District Attorneys are a menace to society!”
He also stated Florida officials are not and will not be involved in the potential arrest of Trump before adding, “I have no interest in getting involved in some type of manufactured circus by some Soros DA, OK? He’s trying to do a political spectacle. He’s trying to virtue signal for his base. I’ve got real issues I gotta deal with here in the state of Florida.”
Finally, DeSantis said, “I’ve gotta spend my time on issues that actually matter to people.”
His comments did not go over well with Trump’s ardent supporters.
Alex Bruesewitz, CEO of the conservative X Strategies, tweeted, “The Biden regime is trying to lock up their number one political opponent, that’s an issue that matters to all sane Americans! Sadly, Ron wants Trump locked up just as much as the Dems do.”

Meanwhile, a user with the name “johnny maga” shared a shortened part of DeSantis’ comments and wrote, “Ron Destablishment just gave the most despicable statement on the persecution of Trump.”
“He didn’t mention Trumps name once [and] decided to take shots at the man who rescued his political career,” he added.

On Saturday, Trump predicted in a post on Truth Social he would be arrested on Tuesday on charges stemming from Bragg’s investigation into hush money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
However, a Trump spokesperson said in a statement there is no evidence Bragg “has decided to take his Witch-Hunt to the next level. President Trump is rightfully highlighting his innocence and the weaponization of our injustice system. He will be in Texas next weekend for a giant rally.”
