President Joe Biden is speaking out about the recent rise in antisemitic incidents across the country.

In a tweet on Monday, Biden said, “The recent attacks on the Jewish community are despicable, and they must stop.”

“I condemn this hateful behavior at home and abroad — it’s up to all of us to give hate no safe harbor,” he added.

Vice President Kamala Harris also tweeted, “The surge in anti-Semitic attacks against the Jewish community in the U.S. and around the world is despicable — it must be called out, condemned, and stopped. As a country, we must stand united against hate of any kind.”

Their comments come amid a surge in attacks on Jewish people in recent days.

The Washington Post reported that since May 10, there have been at least 26 antisemitic incidents reported across the country ranging from physical attacks to vandalism.

The rise in antisemitic incidents came amid days of fighting between militants in Gaza and Israeli forces. Experts say similar conflicts in the past have led to violence in the U.S.

On Tuesday, diners at a restaurant in Los Angeles were attacked by people who were shouting anti-Israel comments. The Los Angeles police department is investigating that incident as an antisemitic hate crime.

In New York City, pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian protesters clashed over the past week, leading to dozens of arrests.

Additionally, in a separate incident, a video captured a mob assaulting a Jewish man. The assailants reportedly yelled antisemitic slurs and kicked beat the man with crutches and flag poles.
