MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - JULY 15: Republican presidential candidate, former U.S. President Donald Trump (L) and Republican vice presidential candidate, U.S. Sen. J.D. Director Ron Howard and Ohio Sen. JD Vance’s (R) may have a past connection, but that does not mean Howard will be voting Republican in the presidential election.

Howard directed the 2020 movie based on Vance’s book, “Hillbilly Elegy.” Vance is now Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s running mate, The Hill reported.

His past relationship with Vance is now pulling Howard that direction, the former child star said in a video posted Saturday.

“There’s no version of me voting for Donald Trump to be president again, whoever the vice president was,” Howard said in the video from Variety.

Previously, Howard said he was “surprised by some of the positions [Vance has] taken and statements he’s made.”

“I always knew he was conservative, but [he] struck me as a very center-right, a kind of a moderate thinker,” Howard told The Hollywood Reporter in 2022.

In the Variety video, Howard said he has worried about the “rhetoric coming out of” the current Republican ticket.

He also said people need to “listen to what the candidates are saying, today,” as opposed to what have said in the past.

“That’s what’s really relevant, it’s who they are today,” Howard said.
