Countries throughout Europe have disseminated emergency plans to citizens including advice to stockpile food.

England, Germany, and Sweden have all advised their citizens to stockpile nonperishable foods, medicine and water, according to Clash Report. The respective countries cited possibilities including war, cyberattacks, extreme weather and disease as factors for disseminating this guidance.

The British, German, and Swedish embassies in Washington, D.C. did not respond for immediate comment.

“In addition to war scenarios, there are also numerous peacetime crises that may lead to a shortage of food and thus supply bottlenecks. These include, for example, animal diseases or serious accidents in large scale technical installations,” warns a German government website managed by the country’s Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Homeland. The website goes on to advise their citizens to stockpile enough emergency supplies to last ten days — including two liters of liquid per person per day.

“From severe weather to cyber attacks, emergencies can disrupt the services you rely on,” advises the British government’s Be Ready campaign. “Being ready for 3 days helps you manage while support reaches those in need.”

The U.K. government provided citizens with a checklist including drinking water, nonperishables, essential medicine, a first-aid kit, a torch, a battery or wind-up radio, a charged power bank and cash as part of its Be Ready Campaign.

Sweden directly warns its citizens of the risk of a conflict breaking out on its soil.

“War is being waged in our corner of the world and the security situation is the most serious since the Second World War. Terrorist threats, cyber attacks and misleading information are being used to harm and influence us. An armed attack against Sweden cannot be ruled out,” the Swedish Civil Defence and Resilience Agency told its citizens.

The agency urges Swedes to be prepared, stating that most people have an obligation to help in the situation of war or a threat of war.

The news out of Europe comes at the same time that the Department of War has enacted the Fortress America program — an initiative aimed at making military installations able to be completely self-reliant for 90 days.
