Former President Donald Trump received a standing ovation as he appeared at the Republican National Convention (RNC) just days after surviving an assassination attempt.

On Monday, Trump visited the RNC and was seen wearing a bandage over his right ear, which he said was “pierced” by a bullet during a rally in Pennsylvania.

As he made his way to the box where his family, newly announced running mate Sen. J.d. Vance (R-Ohio), and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) were seated, he offered some fist bumps to the audience and received a roaring applause while Lee Greenwood’s song “God Bless the U.S.A” played.

Amid the applause and cheers, Trump appeared emotional as he walked to his seat.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Trump acknowledged how close he came to death.

“The most incredible thing was that I happened to not only turn but to turn at the exact right time and in just the right amount,” he said, “If I only half-turn, it hits the back of the brain. The other way goes right through . And because the sign was high, I’m looking up. The chances of my making a perfect turn are probably one tenth of one percent, so I’m not supposed to be here.”

Trump added, “Because the thing was an eighth of an inch away. That I would turn exactly at that second, where he wouldn’t stop the shot is pretty amazing. Pretty amazing. I’m really not supposed to be here.”
