Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy asked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre point-blank Monday whether voters want to see President Joe Biden in the public eye after his exit from office.

Biden vowed during a Friday press conference that he will “not be out of sight, out of mind” after he leaves the Oval Office on Jan. 20, leading Doocy to question whether voters want the president to remain politically relevant despite voting in President-elect Donald Trump. The press secretary said that Biden should be awarded respect for his decades of public service and his belief that the American people “deserve more.”

“President Biden says he’s not gonna be ‘out of sight, out of mind.’ But, isn’t that what voters basically said that they wanted — is him gone?” Doocy asked.

“So, look, this is a president that has served more than 50 years,” Jean-Pierre said. “Who has given all of himself if you will as a public servant, whether as a senator, as a local elected official, as vice president and now as president. I think anybody who has served that long and does it from their heart and soul because they believe this country deserves so much more, they believe that the American people deserve more and has worked day in and day out, certainly as president the last four years, I think deserves some respect. I think he deserves some respect.”

The Fox News correspondent also asked Jean-Pierre who the next leader of the Democratic Party will be in the 2028 election cycle.

“That is for people much smarter than I to make that assessment, that decision,” the press secretary said. “Obviously, voters will decide. That is not for me to decide. I can say right now in this moment, in this room … you have the president, President Joe Biden, who is obviously the leader of the Democratic Party. I cannot predict the future and that is not something I’m not gonna do from here.”

Biden exited the 2024 race at the behest of nearly 40 members of his own party, who insisted he was too old and had proven himself to not be mentally fit after his performance at the June 27 presidential debate. Vice President Kamala Harris later lost the election to Trump after the now-president-elect secured 312 electoral votes.

The president expressed regret for dropping out of the race, stating during a Washington Post interview that he “would have beat Trump” if he had remained in the race. Biden’s approval rating stands at 35.6% as of Monday, while his disapproval rating is 57%, according to FiveThirtyEight.
