Cathay and Google expand AI trials to curb contrails on ultra-long-haul flights

Cathay Pacific and Google are expanding AI-powered trials to predict contrail formation and adjust flight paths, aiming to reduce the aviation sector’s climate impact by enabling altitude or route changes on ultra-long-haul and other routes across the Asia-Pacific region. The program, which involves real-world operational data and partnerships with NGOs, seeks to broaden understanding of contrail avoidance and scale sustainable practices across Cathay’s global network.
