US Sues Milwaukee Over Federal Officer Mask Ban

The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a federal lawsuit challenging Milwaukee’s ordinance that bans masks for law enforcement and requires officers to display identification, arguing it unlawfully regulates the federal government and endangers officer safety. Milwaukee, led by Mayor Cavalier Johnson and City Attorney Evan Goyke, defends the rule as a vital public-safety measure, while the DOJ contends the local law hampers federal operations and conflicts with the Constitution’s Supremacy Clause.
