Cambodian opposition leader’s daughter named PM’s special envoy

Kem Monovithya, daughter of Kem Sokha, was named special envoy to Prime Minister Hun Manet with a rank equivalent to a minister, in a royal decree that formalizes a role for a prominent former opposition figure. Analysts differ on the move: some say it strengthens the ruling party’s position and signals a strategic rapprochement with opposition figures, while others warn it could deepen opposition divisions ahead of elections.
