An immigrant mother whose son was gunned down by a previously deported illegal alien gangbanger is ripping Democrats for the border crisis that raged under their watch.
Agnes Gibboney — a Hungarian-born woman who lived in Brazil before relocating to the U.S. — became an angel mom activist in the years since her only son was killed by an illegal migrant and confirmed gang member in the streets of California. As a naturalized American citizen who went through the process legally, Gibboney has very little sympathy for those breaking the law, and she couldn’t be more supportive of Trump’s handling of immigration enforcement.
“This is the first time that laws are being enforced,” Gibboney said to the Daily Caller News Foundation. “I am so proud of President Trump and I am so honored to call him my president.”
“And for the first time in four years, I believe in peace because I know I got somebody up there in government watching over and protecting the United States, because the last administration did nothing, absolutely nothing,” the angel mom continued. “That man [President Joe Biden] should be in prison for treason.”
In the 1950s, a young Gibboney escaped Communist Hungary with her family and landed in a refugee camp in the former Yugoslavia, according to her account. After months of waiting, her family was finally able to relocate to another part of the world — Brazil. She remained in the South American country until her family was able to emigrate to the U.S., landing at the Los Angeles International Airport in November 1970.
For years, Gibboney was enjoying the American Dream — living and working in the U.S. while enjoying life with her growing family.
However, tragedy struck on April 27, 2002 when her son, Ronald, was shot and killed by a previously deported illegal migrant with a lengthy rap sheet. Ronald was not even the intended target of the attack, but had pushed his best friend out of the way when the illegal migrant attempted to shoot him, resulting in the bullet entering Ronald’s arm and traveling across his chest.
Gibboney’s story was featured by the American Border Story (TABS) — a national initiative dedicated to highlighting the real-world impacts of the border crisis — and exclusively shared with the DCNF.

“This mother’s story is a heartbreaking reminder of what’s at stake when our leaders fail to secure the border,” Nicole Kiprilov, executive director of TABS, said to the DCNF.
“No parent should ever have to bury their child because of a criminal who never should have been here in the first place,” Kiprilov continued. “At TABS, we are committed to giving these families a voice — to show America the real human cost of open borders and to demand policies that protect innocent lives.”
Ronald’s assailant, Luis Gonzalez, already carried a lengthy history with local police and federal immigration authorities before the killing, according to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The Mexican national was convicted on separate burglary charges in 1996 and 1994, rendering him removable under the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Deportation officers repatriated Gonzalez back to Mexico in February 1999, according to ICE. However, he was able to re-enter the U.S. sometime after this removal, eventually being convicted of voluntary manslaughter and sentenced to 11 years in state prison for Ronald’s killing.
A parent of his own, Ronald left behind two children at the time of death, according to Gibboney.
Since her son’s passing, Gibboney has become an outspoken activist against illegal immigration — and Democratic leaders who have enabled the problem.
The angel mom has served as a vocal critic of both Biden, who oversaw historical levels of illegal immigration during his occupation of the Oval Office, and California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, a person she says would prioritize illegal migrants over American citizens and “destroy the entire United States” if elected president.
In contrast, the California mother says she’s been incredibly satisfied with Trump’s dismantling of the border crisis.
Since returning to the White House in January, Trump immediately got to work on immigration reform, signing numerous executive orders and taking administrative actions to secure the southern border, declaring a national emergency, prioritizing wall construction, coercing the Mexican government to deploy law enforcement to the area and issuing numerous other directives.
The results of this effort have been back-to-back milestones of record-low border activity, with the Trump administration declaring the southern border to be the most secure in history.
However, these achievements haven’t come without pushback. Corporate media outlets have eagerly spotlighted the plight of illegal migrants who have faced the consequences of tougher enforcement, and some Democrats have even highlighted horrifying ICE detainment stories that turned out to be complete hoaxes.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass perpetuated claims made earlier in July by a Mexican illegal migrant’s family that she was abducted at gunpoint by masked men and held in immigration detention under harsh conditions. Federal prosecutors have since charged that the Mexican national with conspiracy and making false statements to federal officers, alleging she made the whole story up to gin up public sympathy and garner donations.
Gibboney has a blunt message for news outlets that love to report on the “family separation” of illegal migrants who are deported out of the U.S.
“And then they [the media] talk about, oh, separation of families of illegal aliens and how that is so sad,” the angel mom said to the DCNF. “Go cry me a river.”
“Real separation of families is six feet of dirt above the coffin because I can’t travel to Mexico, to Brazil or to Hungary, anywhere on this earth to go see my son, to give him a hug, but you can go back to Mexico,” Gibboney continued.
Gibboney is far from the only mother who has become politically active since her child was killed by an illegal migrant.
Alexis Nungaray, the mother of Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old allegedly murdered by two illegal migrants, has become a familiar face at the Trump White House. Allyson Phillips — the mother of Laken Riley, who was brutally killed by a Venezuelan illegal migrant while out on a trail run — spoke ahead of Trump’s signing of the Laken Riley Act in January.
After Gonzalez was released from Calipatria State Prison in November 2019, he was immediately taken into ICE custody and removed to Mexico, according to the agency.
What hurts the angel mom is that she isn’t completely sure where her son’s killer is now. While he was deported back to Mexico after serving his prison sentence, he has an established history illegally re-entering the U.S., and amid Biden’s unprecedented border crisis, she believes it’s very possible he took advantage of the chaos and returned.
Gibboney has remained an activist since Gonzalez’s release in November 2019, even running for office the very next year. The California mom said one of her proudest moments was seeing her name appear on the 2020 ballot next to Trump when ran as a congressional candidate.
“I was honored beyond belief to be the first angel mom to run for Congress, to be on the ballot with President Trump,” she said to the DCNF. “That, to me, was well worth the overwhelming stress.”
“I didn’t win, but I’m honored to say I was a congressional candidate in 2020 and on the ballot with my president,” she continued. “I have the highest honor and respect for President Trump, who has shown the world what integrity, courage and self confidence means.”
