Actress Lily Gladstone didn’t get any love from the Academy Awards Sunday night, she did from fans.
Gladstone won several awards leading up to the Oscars for her role in “Killers of the Flower Moon.” However, Emma Stone walked away with the statue for Best Actress for “Poor Things.”
Gladstone made history by becoming the first Native American person to receive a best actress Oscar nomination, the “Today” show reported. She lauded her fellow actors who were nominated for their prospective roles.
“This is such an amazing year: the performances, every film. It’s staggering,” she told “Today” in January after being nominated.
Gladstone had previously won a Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and a Critics Choice Award for the Martin Scorsese film, which did not win any award at the Oscars even though it was nominated in 10 categories.
Several took to X, formerly Twitter, to express their frustration.
“It’s not misogynistic to point out that lily gladstone gave a better performance than emma and that the academy heavily marketed this ceremony around the fact that she could potentially make history only to give it to a white woman btw,” one wrote.
“I would’ve voted for Lily Gladstone a third time if I could,” actor Jared Gilman said.
