The FBI identified the gunman who fired shots in what the FBI called an assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
The shooting occurred at Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, resulting in one attendee dead and two critically injured, according to Secret Service.
The former president was also hit by a bullet on his ear.
The FBI identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the shooter. Secret Service agents killed Crooks at the scene.
CNN reports that Crooks was registered to vote as a Republican, citing a voter database, and “federal Election Commission records show that a donor listed as Thomas Crooks with the same address gave $15 to a Democratic-aligned political action committee called the Progressive Turnout Project in January 2021.”
The gunman was located on a rooftop outside of the venue.
Trump wrote on Truth Social: “I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through my skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized what was happening.”
He also extended his “condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.”
