Republican Rep. Nick LaLota retained his seat in the House with a win over John Avlon, a former CNN political analyst.
LaLota, a first-term congressman, represents the 1st Congressional District that includes Suffolk County and stretches from the eastern tip of Long Island to the New York City suburbs, per KTLA.
The Associated Press called the race at midnight.
Avlon, a fierce critic of former President Donald Trump, announced in February that he would leave CNN to “defeat Donald Trump” and “his MAGA minions” by running against LaLota, Fox News reported.
LaLota easily defeated Avlon, winning by 11 points
Avlon called himself a moderate, “common-sense” Democrat.
“I’m a common-sense Democrat,” he said. “We’re liberal patriots and pragmatic problem-solvers.”
