Former New England Patriots player Sony Michel responded to a now-deleted report claiming he died.

On Aug. 14, Michel, 28, refuted a rumor on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating he died in a motorcycle accident, according to MassLive.

“Fake news,” he wrote.

In the viral tweet posted on X, a sports handicapper announced the news of Michel’s supposed death.

“I am hearing that it’s alleged former Georgia Bulldog and two time Super Bowl Champion Sony Michel passed away last night in a motorcycle accident in Lauderdale Lakes,” he wrote.

However, in a follow-up tweet, the user admitted he had “incorrect” information from his sources.

“Glad to hear he is still with us. Last time I try to report any news. Sorry guys,” he shared.

Later that same day, it was confirmed by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office former Seattle Seahawks player Alex Collins died at 28 from a fatal motorcycle crash.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, “The motorcycle struck the rear passenger side of the SUV. The impact caused the motorcyclist to enter the rear passenger side window of the Chevrolet and come to a final rest inside the car.”

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Alex Collins this morning. Alex was cherished by his family and friends as well as supporters from all around the world,” the Seahawks shared in a statement on X on behalf of his family.

The organization added, “All who truly know him can attest to his drive, determination, and larger-than-life personality.”
