Former Sen. McCaskill: Biden Must Come Out Fighting in Debate

WASHINGTON, DC - JUNE 18: U.S. President Joe Biden speaks at an event marking the 12th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program in the East Room at the White House on June 18, 2024 in Washington, DC. Biden announced a new program that will provide protections for undocumented immigrants married to U.S. citizens, allowing them to obtain work authorization and streamline their path to citizenship. President Joe Biden is in a fight for his life to retain the White House and a former senator said he needs to “come out like a junkyard dog” when debating his rival later this week.

Former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) said Biden “has to absolutely be willing to get down and fight with this guy in a way that shows people he’s strong. What he says is not as important as how he says it.”

McCaskill made those comments on MSNBC’s “The Weekend.”

“[Trump] has no respect for the things that…make us the kind of country that people want to come to because they know their freedoms will be protected.” @clairecmc on why the Biden campaign must remind the American people of who Donald Trump is. pic.twitter.com/tLOInfc6sY

The reason Biden needs to go on the offensive, McCaskill said, is that Biden’s foe — former President Donald Trump —have tried to depict Bidena though “he can’t walk or talk,” per the HuffPost.

Recently, Trump’s campaign and other Republicans have suggested Biden may use drugs to boost his performance at the debate.

“They’ve gone way out of their way to make this man look incompetent,” McCaskill said.

Biden, she said, has “got to leave the presidential, dignified Joe Biden at the door and he’s got to appear at that podium as scrappy Joe from Scranton that’s willing to take on big guys that are not there for the little guys.”

She said he has “an opportunity to clear the air about whether or not he’s strong enough to be commander in chief for another four years.”

Thursday‘s debate will be hosted by CNN in Atlanta.
