Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb is warning a report claiming to show there was fraud in the 2020 election could backfire.

In a post on Truth Social, former President Donald Trump promised to hold a press conference to release a report allegedly showing there was fraud in the election.

But during an appearance on CNN, Cobb suggested the press conference may not be a good idea.

“This is, you know, generating chaos. I mean, frankly, there’s a good chance that whatever document he produces ends up as evidence against him,” Cobb said.

He added, “It could even end up as the basis for an obstruction count against the author because it’s likely to be fiction and solely for the purpose of contaminating the jury pool.”

Trump has repeatedly claimed there was widespread fraud that altered the results of the 2020 election. However, several recounts and legal challenges failed to substantiate his claims.

The former president was indicted by a grand jury in Georgia on Monday. He was charged with felony racketeering and other conspiracy charges following an investigation into his alleged efforts to overturn the results of the election in Georgia.

Trump wrote on Tuesday, “A Large, Complex, Detailed but Irrefutable REPORT on the Presidential Election Fraud which took place in Georgia is almost complete [and] will be presented by me at a major News Conference.”

“Based on the results of this CONCLUSIVE Report, all charges should be dropped against me [and] others – There will be a complete EXONERATION! They never went after those that Rigged the Election. They only went after those that fought to find the RIGGERS!” he added.

Trump has claimed the latest charges are “politically-inspired” and were “tailored for placement right smack in the middle of my political campaign, where I am leading all Republicans—by a lot—and beating Joe Biden soundly in almost all polls.”
