Democrats on Monday made their rounds on the fourth anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021 incident at the U.S. Capitol, as they discussed, compared and made bizarre claims about that day.
Over the years, a handful of Democrats have consistently reminded the public about the 2021 event, with President Joe Biden labeling it as “the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War.” Despite President-elect Donald Trump winning both the Electoral College and the popular vote last November, Democrats continue to remind voters about Jan. 6, 2021.
1. Sunny Hostin Compares J6 To the Holocaust and World War II
On ABC’s “The View” Monday morning, co-host Sunny Hostin said the Jan. 6, 2021 event at the Capitol was one of the “worst days in American history.” She said Americans could never forget the incident in the same way as “World War II, things that happened like the Holocaust, [and] chattel slavery … because [the] past becomes prologue if you forget any race.”
“I think we need to find moral clarity, you know, in this country,” Hostin said. “And I just remember, after January 6, you had someone like Mitch McConnell placing the blame on January 6 where it belonged, squarely on Donald Trump’s shoulders,” Hostin said.

“Then, you started seeing people backtrack that and losing their moral center. You had Condoleeza Rice, I believe, on this very show saying, ‘You know what. We need to move on from January 6.’ I say no, you don’t move on because January 6 was an atrocity,” Hostin added. “It was one of the worst moments in American history.”
2. Former Democratic Missouri Senator Says She’s ‘Bitter’ Over ‘A Higher Political Price’ Not Being Paid
Former Democratic Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill told MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace on Monday that she was “bitter” over the lack of a “political price” paid for J6.
Following the incident in 2021, the House of Representatives adopted an article of impeachment against Trump and said he helped incite the attack against the Capitol. However, by February 2021 the U.S. Senate voted 57-43 to acquit Trump in his impeachment trial.
On “Deadline: White House,” Wallace asked McCaskill her thoughts regarding the “bittersweet day” and mentioned Trump’s cabinet nominees, who are expected to attend confirmation hearings in January.
“Something is broken, and we need to acknowledge that. The other thing we have to keep front of mind, Nicole, is that Donald Trump didn’t win 50% of the votes,” McCaskill said. “This is an evenly divided country. It’s about half and half. A chunk of those folks that voted for Donald Trump ignored everything except the fact they don’t like the status quo.”

“So the one thing I would say today is I get it. I talk to people every day [who] say, ‘You know, Claire, I’m just tuning out. I’m so discouraged. I’m so depressed. I’m just tuning out.’ We cannot tune out. We have to tune in,” McCaskill added.
3. Hakeem Jeffries Compares J6 To Pearl Harbor
Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Monday morning compared Jan. 6, 2021 to a “day that will forever live in infamy,” a term coined by former President Franklin D. Roosevelt immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor.

4. Former Capitol Police Officer Says J6 Can’t Be ‘WhiteWashed’ By ‘MAGA Extremists’
Former Capitol police officer Harry Dunn told MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace that Jan. 6 shouldn’t be whitewashed or downplayed by “the MAGA extremists.”
Following the incident, Dunn testified to Congress’s Jan. 6 Committee, saying he had witnessed violence and heard racial slurs while on duty during the attack. On “Deadline: White House,” Dunn, who ran for Congress as a Democrat in 2024, told Wallace that for the last four years he has been “making sure” people “don’t forget this day.”

“One of the things that really stands out with regards to the pardons, and, forgive me if I’m getting ahead of myself, but one of the things that stands out is those people that attacked the police officers there, that was, they were there violently attacking police officers. The people that were trespassing and entered the Capitol illegally, they didn’t spend years and months in jail,” Dunn said.
“They paid fines, and they got probation. But the people that Donald Trump will be releasing on the street are the people that brutally, savagely attacked police officers. That’s one of the things that I’ll always be out there pushing back on.”
5. Democratic Rep Says J6 Rioters Went To ‘Hang’ Former Vice President Mike Pence
Democratic California Rep. Norma Torres said Monday that the “mob” who attacked the U.S. Capitol went there to “hang” former Vice President Mike Pence.
Torres appeared on “CNN Newsroom With Jim Acosta.” She said to Acosta that Americans chose to elect Trump and “deny” the attack. This, after the host asked how Trump was able to “pull the wool” over voters’ eyes.
“To hang the vice president — the Republican vice president — of the United States here in front of the US Capitol was sent by him,” Torres said. “They did not have love in their heart. Certainly, it did not feel as if they had love in their heart from the violence.”
