Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is not holding back his frustration with the eight House Republicans who led the chamber in the historic move of ousting a speaker.

“From my position as a long-time Republican activist, they’re traitors. All eight of them should in fact be primaried, they should all be driven out of public life,” Gingrich said.

He went on:

“What they did was to go to the other team to cause total chaos. We outta be focusing on Biden. We outta be focusing on the economy. We outta be focusing on the border. Instead, you’re going to get a week or 10 days of the media focusing on Republican disarray. It’s an astonishingly destructive behavior by a handful of egocentric people who think they’re superior to 96% of the conference.”

On Tuesday, the House voted 216-210 to oust Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) as speaker, the first time in U.S. history such a move has succeeded. It came after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) filed a motion to vacate the chair.

The Florida congressman embarked on his scheme after McCarthy passed a spending bill to avoid a government shutdown that relied on Democratic votes. Yet that decision came after Gaetz’s crew rejected a more conservative proposal that would have cut federal spending, included money for border security, and created a commission on the federal debt.

During speeches on the House floor, Gaetz and company railed against the former speaker for failing to sufficiently address concerns on a range of issues. However, they conveniently failed to share their secret plan to get their agenda through the House, through the Democrat-controlled Senate and signed into law by President Joe Biden.

They then sided with every single Democrat present yesterday in the name of throwing out the alleged “Republican in name only” speaker without any clear replacement or strategy of what to do next, thus throwing the House into chaos and threatening to tear the majority apart.

And then in the wake of the decision to adjourn the House for a week so potential candidates for speaker could emerge, Gaetz got on his high horse and sanctimoniously whined about the lack of work being done — which was caused by this action of filing the motion to vacate the chair and forcing the chamber to a screeching halt.

Matt Gaetz frustrated that RINOs want to take a week off before electing a new Speaker:

"I was very disappointed that Mr. McHenry said that we won’t be engaging the people’s work until next Tuesday. We should stay, we should work, we should have the Speaker election this week." pic.twitter.com/bWqSkEqWpp

To quote Netflix’s “Glass Onion,” what happened yesterday was “just dumb!”

If you want a textbook on how to squander a House majority in 270 days or less, look no further than what happened this week.

Republicans now appear petty, chaotic, unserious, and unable to handle the responsibility of governing heading into a major election year. Good luck selling voters on why they should be in the majority again.
