Rudy Giuliani, who was once the mayor of New York, has been disbarred for trying to overthrow the 2020 presidential election.
“The seriousness of [Giuliani’s] misconduct cannot be overstated,” a state appeals court wrote in a unanimous opinion, Politico reported.
The former mayor “flagrantly misused his prominent position as the personal attorney for former President (Donald) Trump and his campaign,” the court wrote.
He “repeatedly and intentionally made false statements, some of which were perjurious, to the federal court, state lawmakers, the public … and this Court concerning the 2020 Presidential election, in which he baselessly attacked and undermined the integrity of this country’s electoral process,” the appellate panel of five judges said.
There was a litany of instances, the court determined, when Giuliani attempted to inject doubt in the outcome of the election by presenting flimsy or misleading evidence.
Giuliani may also be barred in Washington, D.C.
He has been suspended there pending a final decision by the D.C. Court of Appeals.
